Alphonzo Keith Baker, a 51-year-old man from St. Albans, West Virginia, has pleaded guilty to federal drug crimes, including the distribution of 40 grams or more of fentanyl on multiple occasions in the Charleston area. Baker, also known as “KD”, sold the deadly opioid on October 6, 2025, November 4, 2025, and December 2, 2025. He also possessed quantities of fentanyl and cocaine with the intent to distribute them on December 4, 2025.
Baker’s guilty plea is the result of a federal investigation into fentanyl trafficking in the Charleston area, which has led to the indictment of eight individuals. Two defendants, including Baker, have pleaded guilty, while the remaining cases are still pending.
The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT), which includes the Charleston Police Department, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, and other local law enforcement agencies. United States Attorney Moore Capito commended the investigative work of these agencies, which has helped to bring Baker to justice.
Baker is scheduled to be sentenced on October 15, 2026, and faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 40 years in prison for each count of distribution of 40 grams or more of fentanyl. He also faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison for possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, as well as at least four years of supervised release and a fine of up to $5 million.
