A Detroit man has been locked up for poisoning the streets of West Virginia, selling nearly two kilograms of methamphetamine and over three grams of fentanyl in Harrison County. Emmitt Renand Richardson, 53, was handed a 22-year prison sentence for running a drug trafficking operation centered in Clarksburg.
For nearly a year, the Greater Harrison County Drug Task Force investigated Richardson’s operation, discovering a web of sales on city streets and from several residences he used to further the business. Richardson’s crew was responsible for funneling toxic poison into the community, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
A federal jury found Richardson guilty in September 2025, marking the end of his reign as a major player in the region’s illicit drug trade. Three other defendants involved in the case have also admitted guilt, with one already sentenced to 11 years in prison.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Andrew Cogar and Will Rhee prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the Greater Harrison Drug Task Force leading the investigation.
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations. Fentanyl, the deadly synthetic opioid, has been designated by President Donald Trump as a weapon of mass destruction due to its extreme lethality.
