Fentanyl Kingpin Cleto Gets 25 Months for 400g Fentanyl Deal
A 65-year-old New York man, Jose Migel Cleto, has been sentenced to 25 months in prison after pleading guilty to distributing and possessing fentanyl in New Jersey.
Cleto, of Manhattan, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Madeline Cox Arleo in Newark federal court after previously pleading guilty to an information charging him with one count of distribution and possession with the intent to distribute a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl.
According to documents filed in the case, in April 2022, Cleto distributed and possessed with the intent to distribute 400 grams or more of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl to a man in a commercial parking lot in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
The investigation leading to today’s sentencing was credited to special agents of Homeland Security Investigations Newark, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge William S. Walker. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Vincent D. Romano of the OCDETF Unit in Newark.
Cleto’s sentence of 25 months in prison was the result of time already served. The harsh reality of the fentanyl trade has claimed another victim, leaving communities to pick up the pieces.
