Flores-Diaz Slammed with 78-Month Sentence
TUCSON, Ariz. – Last week, Eduardo Flores-Diaz, 43, a Mexico native, was handed down a 78-month prison term by United States District Judge Jennifer G. Zipps for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl.
In April 2022, Flores-Diaz, along with three co-conspirators, embarked on a treacherous journey from Tucson, Arizona. Their trip came to an abrupt halt in Scottsdale when federal agents and troopers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) apprehended them during a high-stakes buy/bust operation. Authorities discovered nearly 90,000 counterfeit oxycodone pills laced with the deadly fentanyl.
The sentencing of Flores-Diaz is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Strike Force initiative aimed at dismantling the most sinister criminal organizations threatening the United States. The OCDETF Program has been instrumental in identifying, disrupting, and dismantling these groups using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach.
This case was a collaborative effort by Homeland Security Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Assistant United States Attorney David Petermann prosecuted the case for the District of Arizona in Tucson.
