Jose Magana Garcia, Fentanyl Trafficking, New Mexico 2025

ALBUQUERQUE – The grimy streets of Albuquerque witnessed a monumental blow to drug trafficking as federal agents have zeroed in on Jose Magana Garcia, known as the Fentanyl Kingpin. Today, Garcia stands indicted for orchestrating a massive drug ring that has terrorized our city.

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) conducted an undercover sting that exposed Garcia’s sinister operation. On August 13, 2025, agents identified Garcia as the linchpin of a fentanyl trafficking network during an operation in Albuquerque. His name became synonymous with death and destruction when he supplied an undercover officer with nearly 2,000 fentanyl pills.

But Garcia was not just content with supplying drugs; he was also adept at evading law enforcement. Surveillance footage captured him engaging in drug transactions and employing counter-surveillance driving tactics to avoid detection.

The DEA’s relentless pursuit led to the execution of a search warrant on August 27, 2025, at Garcia’s northeast Albuquerque apartment. Inside, agents found Garcia alongside an arsenal of drugs: over 8 kilograms of fentanyl pills, more than 4 kilograms of heroin, and nearly 35 grams of methamphetamine, all concealed in a couch. Packaging materials and prepackaged doses indicative of drug distribution were also recovered.

With this evidence, Garcia faces charges of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and heroin. The justice system will ensure that the Fentanyl Kingpin pays for his crimes. If convicted, Garcia faces a minimum sentence of 10 years and could spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The DEA’s El Paso Division led this investigation with support from the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office Special Investigations Bureau and the Laguna Pueblo Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Maria Elena Stiteler will prosecute Garcia, who remains in custody pending trial.
