Deshawn Jones, a 44-year-old New Orleans resident, was sentenced to 200 months in prison for his role in a massive fentanyl, crack, and cocaine trafficking operation in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Between December 27, 2021, and November 25, 2024, Jones conspired with others to distribute these illicit substances, putting countless lives at risk. On November 25, 2024, Jones was found in possession of 40 grams or more of fentanyl, 28 grams or more of crack, and two firearms, including a Smith and Wesson revolver and a DPMS Panther Arms semi-automatic pistol.
The investigation, which was part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, aimed to combat violent crime and make communities safer. Jones’s sentencing is a significant blow to the fentanyl trafficking trade in New Orleans, which has been plagued by the opioid epidemic.
United States District Judge Susie Morgan handed down the sentence, which includes 8 years of supervised release and a $300 mandatory special assessment fee. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana, in collaboration with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
