Scott Martel, a 36-year-old from Eunice, Louisiana, pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography on July 21, 2026. The guilty plea came after an FBI investigation linked Martel’s address to a chatroom where he discussed graphic sexual acts with minors. The probe began in March 2025 and led to a search warrant at Martel’s home, where he acknowledged his involvement and agents found evidence of illegal images, including those of a young child engaged in explicit conduct.
Martel used multiple online platforms and devices to commit these offenses over time. The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse launched by the Department of Justice in 2006.
The FBI investigated the case, and it is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elliott Cassidy. Martel faces up to 20 years in federal prison and is scheduled for sentencing on October 13, 2026.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana announced the guilty plea, with U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller stating that protecting children from sexual exploitation is a top priority.
