Saul Salazar-Leon, a 46-year-old Mexican national, was caught secretly recording a 12-year-old girl in a bathroom in Idaho. The disturbing discovery was made in December 2024 by the girl’s mother, who found a hidden camera while cleaning the bathroom. The mother confronted Salazar-Leon, who claimed it was a mistake and begged her not to contact law enforcement.
However, the mother reported the incident, and an investigation was launched by the Nampa Police Department. They searched Salazar-Leon’s residence and found a USB thumb drive containing hidden recordings of child pornography. He was arrested and found to have an SD card in his pocket with more illicit recordings.
Salazar-Leon pleaded guilty to the charge on January 7, 2026, and was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison. He will also serve 15 years of supervised release and register as a sex offender. The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office commended the work of the Nampa Police Department, which led to the charges. Assistant U.S. Attorney David G. Robins prosecuted the case, which was brought to justice through the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies.
