Ten defendants, part of a brazen methamphetamine trafficking ring, were sentenced to federal prison for distributing the deadly drug in Idaho’s Magic Valley. The ring brought in over 30 pounds of methamphetamine from Arizona and California, flooding the region with a toxic substance that’s destroying lives.
At the center of the operation was Oscar Alejandro Perez-Gomez, 33, of Jerome, who was sentenced to 292 months in federal prison for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine. Perez-Gomez and his cohorts would travel to the Southwest to obtain massive quantities of methamphetamine, which they would then bring back to the Magic Valley for distribution.
Chief U.S. District Court Judge Amanda K. Brailsford ordered Perez-Gomez to serve five years of supervised release following his prison sentence. Several other defendants were also handed significant prison time for their roles in the conspiracy.
The investigation, involving federal, state, and local law enforcement, uncovered a complex web of methamphetamine distribution that was wreaking havoc on the Magic Valley community. The sentences handed down to these defendants serve as a stark reminder that the war on methamphetamine trafficking will not be won easily, but it will be won.
