A 55-year-old Idaho man was sentenced to 52 months in the slammer for orchestrating a brazen embezzlement scheme that bilked a business out of nearly half a million bucks. Miles Elletson of Eagle, Idaho, will also have to fork over $161,354 in back taxes.
According to court records, Elletson masterminded a scheme to defraud Business-1 out of $478,013 between June 2017 and December 2020. He submitted fake invoices and work orders to Business-1, claiming that Advanced Purchasing Services LLC (APS) had performed work for the company, when in reality, APS was just a shell company set up by Elletson.
Elletson would then instruct the owner of APS to write checks from the company’s account to his own personal accounts, which were used to fund his personal expenses.
But that’s not all – Elletson also filed false tax returns for the 2017-2020 tax years, failing to report the embezzled income and dodging a total of $161,354 in taxes.
Senior U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill handed down the sentence, which includes two years of supervised release following Elletson’s prison term.
