Lester Levi Carias Zuniga, a 29-year-old Honduran national, was busted for allegedly distributing fentanyl in the Salt Lake City area. On March 18, 2026, detectives stopped Carias Zuniga, who was driving a Toyota Camry, and found approximately 40 grams of fentanyl pills and 4.7 grams of fentanyl powder on him. A search of his residence in West Jordan, Utah, yielded an additional 206 grams of fentanyl pills and 16 grams of fentanyl powder, totaling around 2,500 individual pills.
Carias Zuniga, who was previously removed from the United States in 2018, was charged with possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute and reentry of a previously removed alien. The indictment was returned by a federal grand jury in Salt Lake City on March 24, 2026.
The investigation was led by the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force, which received a tip about Carias Zuniga’s alleged fentanyl distribution activities in March 2026. A controlled purchase was conducted, and detectives obtained a search warrant for Carias Zuniga’s residence and vehicle.
The seizure of 2,500 fentanyl pills is a significant blow to the drug trade in the Salt Lake City area. Fentanyl is a highly addictive and deadly opioid, and its distribution poses a serious threat to public health and safety.
