Jared Kory Titcomb, Fentanyl Death, Utah 2023

Utah County Man Ordered to Remain in Custody After Woman's Fentanyl-Related Death on Christmas Morning

A Utah County man is facing federal charges after allegedly supplying fentanyl that led to the death of a woman on Christmas morning, according to the Department of Justice. Jared Kory Titcomb, 28, of Spanish Fork, Utah, was ordered to remain in custody by a U.S. Magistrate Judge following the incident.

The indictment alleges that Titcomb distributed fentanyl to a victim on Christmas Eve, 2023, resulting in her death. Investigators found that the victim had reached out to Titcomb on Christmas Eve to purchase the illicit substance. The investigation also revealed that the victim died of a drug overdose and had fentanyl in her system at the time of her death.

The case is part of the Department of Justice's Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and community organizations. The program focuses on fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting prevention efforts, and setting strategic enforcement priorities.

U.S. Attorney Trina A. Higgins announced the charges against Titcomb, who is charged with distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. Special Assistant United States Attorney Peter Reichman of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Utah is prosecuting the case. The Spanish Fork Police Department and the Utah County Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the incident.

Titcomb initially appeared in court on May 7, 2024, before a U.S. Magistrate Judge at the United States District Courthouse in downtown Salt Lake City. An indictment is merely an allegation, and Titcomb is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement found that the victim had reached out to Titcomb on Christmas Eve to purchase fentanyl. The incident highlights the ongoing threat of fentanyl-related overdoses and the importance of addressing the root causes of this public health crisis.

The Department of Justice has launched various initiatives to combat the opioid epidemic, including the PSN program. By working together with law enforcement and community organizations, the Department aims to reduce the flow of illicit substances into communities and prevent senseless tragedies like the one that unfolded on Christmas morning in Utah County.
