Boniface Binene, Fentanyl Trafficking, Idaho 2024

⏱ 2 min read

Boniface Binene, a 25-year-old citizen of the Republic of Congo, sold a tenth of a gram of fentanyl to 31-year-old Andrew Doyle in Meridian, Idaho, on May 3, 2024, resulting in Doyle’s overdose death. Binene, who pleaded guilty to the offense on November 19, 2025, was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison. The fatal transaction occurred in front of Binene’s residence, where Doyle was found dead in his parked vehicle. The Ada County Coroner’s Office determined that Doyle died from acute fentanyl intoxication.

The victim’s mother, Kari Bryant, spoke at the sentencing hearing, highlighting the devastating impact of fentanyl on families. She noted that her son had been actively participating in drug treatment and had 355 days clean before recently relapsing. Bryant emphasized her commitment to raising awareness about the dangers of fentanyl, which she referred to as a ‘weapon of mass destruction’.

Chief U.S. District Judge Amanda K. Brailsford ordered Binene to serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence and to pay $1,773.08 in restitution for the family’s funeral expenses. Due to the nature of the crime, Binene will likely be deported after serving his sentence. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian S. Nafzger, with the investigation led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Meridian Police Department, Caldwell Police Department, and the Ada County Coroner’s Office.

The sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the deadly consequences of fentanyl trafficking and the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat the epidemic. U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis commended the work of the agencies involved, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration to address the crisis.
