CHARLESTON, W.Va. – In a major blow to the state’s ongoing struggle with the opioid epidemic, 47-year-old Isaiah Vaniah McDade of South Charleston was sentenced to three years and 10 months in federal prison for his role in distributing fentanyl and methamphetamine in the Kanawha County area.
McDade’s downfall began on August 10, 2022, when he started selling approximately 5 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant over the course of five separate transactions. He continued to deal in illicit substances through September 16, 2022, selling methamphetamine and cocaine to the same informant. McDade admitted to these transactions in court, revealing his brazen disregard for the law.
The full extent of McDade’s involvement in the illicit substance trade was laid bare when law enforcement intercepted his phone calls, revealing discussions about the distribution of 33.5 grams of heroin, 7 grams of methamphetamine, and 30.8 grams of cocaine. McDade’s involvement in this scheme ultimately led to the execution of a search warrant at his residence on August 17, 2023, resulting in the seizure of $5,115 in cash.
United States Attorney Will Thompson praised the investigative work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT), and the South Charleston Police Department, which made the case possible. ‘This sentence sends a clear message to those engaging in the distribution of illicit substances: we will find you, and we will hold you accountable,’ Thompson stated.
Assistant United States Attorney JC MacCallum prosecuted the case, working closely with the investigative agencies to bring McDade to justice. United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin imposed the sentence, ensuring that McDade will face the consequences of his actions.
McDade’s 46-month sentence is a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies in West Virginia and their commitment to eradicating the opioid epidemic. As the state continues to grapple with the devastating effects of substance abuse, cases like McDade’s serve as a reminder that those responsible will be held accountable.
