Fernando Enriquez, Armed Bank Robbery, Texas 2022

A 10-year prison sentence has been handed down to Fernando Enriquez, a 35-year-old Albuquerque man, for an armed bank robbery in Abilene, Texas.

According to plea papers, Enriquez admitted to entering a Chase Bank in Abilene on March 29, 2022, brandishing a firearm, demanding cash from the teller, and then fleeing the scene.

The teller and another employee activated their silent alarms during the robbery, and when law enforcement arrived, a witness turned over cell phone video of the suspect exiting the bank and entering a white Chevrolet suburban bearing Mississippi license plates.

Enriquez was pulled over by Texas DPS and Abilene Police Department officers in Merkel, Texas, along with his girlfriend, who was detained and subsequently told FBI agents that she and Enriquez had lived in Arizona, Mississippi, New Mexico, and California over the past 14 months, with Enriquez always seeming to have cash on hand.

She also stated that Enriquez had left her and their children at a motel prior to the robbery, stating he had to fill the car with gas, and that his driving during their departure from Abilene was faster and more erratic than usual.

Enriquez was indicted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Arizona on April 19, 2022, with four counts of bank robbery and four counts of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and will be transported to the District of Arizona to face those charges.
