CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Marcas Cory Anglin, 30, of Tampa, Florida, faced the barrel of federal justice today, receiving a three years and four months prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Anglin’s crime spree began on October 2, 2020, when he attempted to evade law enforcement officers on U.S. Route 19 in Fayette County, West Virginia. The chase ended with a vehicle wreck and Anglin on the lam. He was eventually caught in a barn after leading authorities on a foot pursuit.
Upon arrest, Anglin’s arsenal included a loaded Glock model 27 .40-caliber pistol, later confirmed as stolen. His flight from justice didn’t end there; while being transported, he attempted another escape but was quickly recaptured. It turned out Anglin was also wanted on an outstanding warrant in Florida.
Despite knowing his rights were revoked due to a prior felony conviction for armed burglary, Anglin’s criminal history includes additional convictions for aggravated assault, battery, burglary, and grand theft of motor vehicle and firearm.
Lisa G. Johnston, Acting United States Attorney, hailed the ATF and West Virginia State Police for their diligent work in bringing this case to conclusion. Senior District Judge David A Faber imposed the sentence, while Assistant United States Attorney JC MacCallum prosecuted the case.
The sentence is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence, ensuring neighborhoods are safer for all. The U.S. Attorney’s Office and PACER have more details on this case, which underscores the commitment to community safety through PSN’s strategic enforcement.
