CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Marcas Cory Anglin, 30, of Tampa, Florida, was handed a sentence of three years and four months in federal prison today for being a felon in possession of a firearm, marking the culmination of an intense pursuit across West Virginia.
In October 2020, Anglin sparked a chase when he fled from officers on U.S. Route 19 in Fayette County. The chase ended with a crash in Nicholas County, where Anglin attempted to flee on foot but was caught in a barn. Authorities seized a loaded Glock model 27 .40-caliber pistol, later confirmed as stolen.
Anglin’s criminal history includes prior convictions for aggravated assault, burglary, and theft of a firearm, among others. Despite knowing the prohibition due to his earlier armed burglary conviction, he attempted to evade law enforcement yet again after his arrest.
Acting U.S. Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the sentence, commending the ATF and West Virginia State Police for their diligent work. Senior District Judge David A Faber imposed the sentence, with Assistant U.S. Attorney JC MacCallum prosecuting the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. The Department’s May 26, 2021 strategy emphasizes fostering trust in communities, supporting prevention efforts, strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results to improve public safety.
