ALBANY, NEW YORK – Akeem Davis, 31, of Brandon, Florida, was today sentenced to 18 months in prison for selling a privately manufactured firearm, commonly known as a ‘ghost gun,’ in the state of New York. This illegal transaction, which involved a sub-machine gun, was worth $1,200.
Davis, who had been previously convicted of a Kansas state felony drug charge, was not legally allowed to possess the firearm. The ATF’s New York Field Division revealed that Davis also offered to sell machine gun conversion devices and silencers during the illegal sale.
In announcing the sentence, Acting United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III emphasized the severity of Davis’ actions: ‘Akeem Davis traveled across state lines to peddle a highly dangerous ‘ghost gun,’ demonstrating a disregard for the law that this office will not tolerate. We will use every legal tool to ensure felons like Davis face the full weight of the law for their illegal activities.’
Bryan Miller, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF New York Field Division, echoed these sentiments: ‘Those who traffic in illegal firearms, including machine guns and silencers, will be held accountable. These weapons pose a significant threat to our communities, and we are committed to disrupting this kind of dangerous criminal activity with our federal and local partners.’
United States District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino also imposed a 2-year term of post-release supervision on Davis. The ATF investigated the case, which Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Paulbeck prosecuted.
