Kendric Lanorris Cannon, Gun & Drug Crime, South Carolina 2022

FLORENCE, S.C. – Kendric Lanorris Cannon, 47, of Florence, was sentenced to five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

Cannon, the sole occupant of a vehicle parked in an apartment complex, was approached by Florence Police Department officers in the evening of Feb. 2, 2022. Cannon claimed he lived there and exited the vehicle, whereupon officers spotted a firearm and a bag of white powder on the driver’s side floorboard.

During a subsequent search of the car, law enforcement found a .380 caliber handgun, more than 100 grams of cocaine divided up into baggies, and a digital scale. Cannon later admitted that the firearm was his and that there was cocaine in the car.

United States District Judge Joseph Dawson, III sentenced Cannon to 60 months imprisonment, to be followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervision. There is no parole in the federal system.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Florence Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine Flynn is prosecuting the case.

The Florence Police Department and ATF worked together to take down Cannon and dismantle the violent crime that plagued the community. This joint effort is a testament to the commitment of law enforcement to keep our neighborhoods safe.

Cannon’s sentence serves as a warning to those who think they can profit from the sale of narcotics and arm themselves with deadly force. In the federal system, there is no parole, and offenders must serve their time before being released.
