ROANOKE, Va. – In a stunning turn of events in the gritty world of drug crime, Garrett Isaac Williams, 22, from Roanoke, Virginia, was sentenced yesterday to 150 months in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy that led to the brutal murder of a drug supplier.
Williams, who admitted guilt to one count of conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery, had previously conspired with Joseph Walker to distribute large quantities of marijuana and marijuana wax. Their debt to their supplier, E.B., from Pennsylvania, was the catalyst for a plan that went dreadfully awry.
Court documents revealed that beginning in January 2023, Williams and Walker schemed to rob E.B. after he called Walker’s mother by mistake. Instead of settling their debt, they plotted to rob E.B. upon his delivery of marijuana. Their scheme culminated on April 17, 2023, when E.B. was murdered during a botched robbery at Walker’s residence.
According to the prosecution, Williams played a pivotal role in planning the robbery, maintaining communication with E.B. and providing updates to Walker. After the murder, Walker fled with the stolen marijuana, setting the body ablaze in Bedford County, Virginia.
C. Todd Gilbert, United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia, Stephen Farina, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Richmond Division, and Colonel Matthew D. Hanley, Superintendent of Virginia State Police, announced the sentence. The case was a collaborative effort involving numerous federal and local law enforcement agencies.
This grim episode is part of Operation Take Back America, which mobilizes the Department of Justice to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels, and protect communities from violent crime. Assistant U.S. Attorneys M. Coleman Adams and Kelly McGann led the prosecution with assistance from Drew O. Inman.
