Pentad Corporation, a defense contractor providing dining services at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, has agreed to pay $300,000 in settlement for failing to reimburse the Navy for meals consumed by its employees.
The allegations against Pentad Corporation arose from a contract with the Navy that allowed employees to eat at Navy dining facilities but required the company to reimburse the Navy for meals consumed. From December 2013 to December 2016, Pentad failed to reimburse the Navy for these meals, resulting in approximately $150,000 in damages.
U.S. Attorney Maria Chapa Lopez stated, “Protecting the integrity of services provided to our armed forces is a high priority for our office. We will work vigorously to ensure that defense contractors fulfill their contractual obligations so that our military can accomplish its mission.”
Special Agent in Charge John F. Khin added, “This settlement is the result of tireless efforts by the Defense Criminal Investigative Service and its law enforcement partners to ensure integrity and compliance in all Department of Defense programs.”
Pentad Corporation’s failure to reimburse the Navy is considered a form of fraud, which can divert taxpayer dollars from important military programs.
This case was investigated by the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, the Defense Contract Audit Agency, and Assistant United States Attorney Shea Gibbons.
The claims resolved by this settlement are allegations only, and there has been no determination of liability.
