New Orleans, Louisiana – Floyd Jones, a 38-year-old local, has been sentenced to 80 months in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a firearm. The sentence was announced by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson on August 5, 2025, following Jones’s guilty plea to Counts Three, Four, and Five of an eight-count superseding indictment.
Jones was charged under Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(B), for distributing over 50 grams of methamphetamine on July 15 and August 22, 2024. Additionally, he faced charges under Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8), for being a felon in possession of a Ruger Model Security-9 pistol, loaded with eight rounds of ammunition.
United States District Judge Greg Gerard Guidry sentenced Jones to the mandatory minimum term for his offenses. The judge also ordered supervised release for four years following his prison sentence and a $300 special assessment fee.
Jones was arrested on October 3, 2024, on suspicion of narcotics and firearm trafficking. His conviction is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country.
Acting United States Attorney Simpson commended the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the New Orleans Police Department for their work on the case. Assistant United States Attorney Troy Bell prosecuted the case within the Violent Crime Unit.
