Former Treasurer Pleads Guilty to Stealing $344,262 from Non-Profit

Floyd Kevan Weaver, 53, of Rock Hill, S.C., appeared in court today and admitted to stealing more than $344,262 from his employer, a Charlotte area non-profit organization.

Weaver, the former Treasurer of the organization, pleaded guilty to one count of uttering counterfeit and forged securities before U.S. Magistrate Judge David C. Keesler.

According to filed court documents and today’s court proceedings, Weaver was employed by the non-profit organization from 2000 to 2013. As the non-profit’s elected Treasurer, Weaver was responsible for the organization’s financial affairs and acted as custodian of its funds.

Weaver admitted in court today that from 2008 to 2013, he engaged in a scheme to defraud his employer by fraudulently diverting the organization’s funds for his personal benefit.

Weaver forgave the name of one of the non-profit’s officers on the organization’s bank checks and deposited those checks into his own bank account. To conceal the fraud, Weaver mischaracterized the stolen funds as travel expenses, mileage reimbursement, office supplies and postage.

Weaver admitted to forging approximately 116 checks totaling more than $326,545. He also admitted to using the non-profit’s debit card to steal more than $17,717 for his personal use. Court documents show that Weaver used the stolen money to purchase jewelry and a car, among other things.

As part of his plea agreement, Weaver has agreed to pay restitution, the amount of which will be determined by the Court at sentencing. A sentencing date for the defendant has not been set yet.
