Fort Thompson Man Charged with Firearm and Controlled Substance Offenses

Fort Thompson resident Samuel Redwater, 22, is behind bars after being indicted on a string of serious charges. On January 16, 2013, a federal grand jury handed down an indictment against Redwater for Felony in Possession of a Firearm, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance, and Firearm Offense.

Redwater appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on January 25, 2013, and pled not guilty to the indictment.

The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both; 5 years of supervised release and an additional 3 years of supervised release upon revocation. Restitution and a $100 special assessment may also be ordered.

The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Kathryn N. Rich prosecuting the case. Redwater was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals.

The charges against Redwater are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

A trial date has not been set for Redwater, who remains in custody awaiting trial. As the investigation continues, more information will be revealed.
