Fort Wayne’s Brian Britt, 30, was sentenced to a staggering 180 months in federal prison for his role in a massive fentanyl distribution ring. The sentence, handed down by Chief Judge Holly A. Brady of the United States District Court, came after Britt pleaded guilty to possessing with intent to distribute over 400 grams of fentanyl and having firearms during drug trafficking.
According to court documents, law enforcement conducted three controlled buys of fentanyl pills from Britt in December 2022 and January 2023. The transactions took place in the parking lot of a downtown Fort Wayne apartment building, where Britt sold approximately 6,500 fentanyl pills. In March 2023, authorities discovered an additional 400 grams of fentanyl in Britt’s apartment, along with a .223 caliber rifle and a .40 caliber pistol equipped with an extended magazine.
This case was investigated by the FBI’s Fort Wayne Safe Streets Gang Task Force, a multi-agency initiative involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Indiana State Police, Allen County Sheriff’s Department, and the Fort Wayne Police Department. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Phoenix, Arizona, Police Department also played pivotal roles in the investigation.
Assistant United States Attorney Anthony W. Geller prosecuted the case, which was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation aimed at dismantling high-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations. OCDETF leverages federal, state, and local law enforcement to combat criminal networks effectively.
Additionally, Britt’s sentencing is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a comprehensive strategy to reduce violent crime and gun violence across the nation. PSN brings together all levels of law enforcement with community organizations to enhance public safety.
Britt’s sentence sends a strong message about the government’s commitment to tackling drug trafficking and organized crime, emphasizing the severe consequences faced by those who engage in such activities.
