FORT WAYNE, IN – Patrick N. Adams, 34, is facing a long stretch behind bars after receiving a 100-month federal prison sentence for peddling poison on the streets of Fort Wayne. Chief Judge Holly A. Brady of the United States District Court delivered the sentence following Adams’ guilty plea to possessing with intent to distribute fentanyl, a charge that carries serious weight in a city grappling with the opioid crisis.
The case, announced by United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson, details Adams’ brazen activity in August 2023. Court documents reveal he twice sold counterfeit M30 pills laced with the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl. These weren’t just pills; they were potential death sentences disguised as legitimate medication, preying on addiction and putting lives at risk.
But the drug dealing didn’t stop at street-level transactions. A subsequent search of Adams’ residence turned up a cache of additional counterfeit M30 pills containing fentanyl – further evidence of a full-blown distribution operation. As if that wasn’t enough, investigators also discovered a handgun, adding another layer of danger and illegality to the situation.
The investigation was a collaborative effort, spearheaded by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) with crucial assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Fort Wayne Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Stacey R. Speith skillfully prosecuted the case, ensuring Adams was held accountable for his actions.
This prosecution falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a comprehensive initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence across the nation. Launched in 2021, the program emphasizes building trust with communities, supporting local organizations, and strategically prioritizing enforcement efforts. It’s about more than just arrests; it’s about long-term safety.
Following his 100-month prison term, Adams will face an additional four years of supervised release. While it’s a significant sentence, it barely scratches the surface of the damage he inflicted. This case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of fentanyl and the relentless pursuit of justice by federal law enforcement agencies.
