ROME, Ga. – In a fierce blow to drug trafficking operations in the Southeast, Wilfort Foster, III, 41, of El Monte, California, was sentenced to 28 years in federal prison for leading a multi-state ring that funneled hundreds of kilograms of methamphetamine and fentanyl from California into Georgia and beyond.
Foster, already serving probation for prior offenses, ran an operation that moved drugs and laundered drug proceeds totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars. U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg emphasized the gravity of Foster’s sentence as a deterrent to those who would traffic such deadly substances in North Georgia.
Jae W. Chung, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Division, highlighted the agency’s commitment to targeting money laundering networks that profit from illegal drug sales. The FBI’s Paul Brown and Homeland Security Investigations’ Steven N. Schrank echoed the importance of dismantling such dangerous networks.
The investigation revealed Foster’s stash house in California, where he operated an illegal gambling operation to supply his network. He was also found to have supplied a co-defendant with over 22 kilograms of methamphetamine, leading to significant seizures by law enforcement. Foster maintained iron-fisted control over his organization, once breaking a co-defendant’s jaw over drug debt.
Despite being on probation in California for the seizure of nine kilograms of meth and two firearms, Foster continued his operation in Georgia. United States District Judge William M. Ray II sentenced Foster to 28 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. Steven Ham, another member of Foster’s organization, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 10 years of supervised release.
Foster’s downfall is a testament to the relentless efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking networks. His sentence will keep this dangerous criminal off the streets for decades to come.
