MIAMI – Justice came down hard for three men involved in a brutal robbery and kidnapping stemming from a sour drug deal. Dillon Renee Polanco, Anthony William Lamar, a/k/a “Mojo,” and Rahsaan Rolando Robinson, a/k/a “Loso,” have been sentenced to 130, 346, and 220 months in federal prison, respectively. U.S. District Judge William P. Dimitrouleas handed down the sentences following a lengthy investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
The nightmare began on December 14, 2020, when the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) responded to a 911 call regarding a kidnapping in West Palm Beach. Two victims were found bound with zip ties and duct tape. Detectives quickly determined the victims had been targeted by three individuals known to Victim #1—a drug dealer operating out of Belle Glade. Those individuals were identified as Darwin Avila Salgado, a/k/a “Debo,” Anthony Lamar, and Rahsaan Robinson. The crew didn’t just want a reckoning; they wanted cash—a reported $70,000 stolen from a safe at Victim #1’s grandmother’s house in Belle Glade.
The ATF investigation revealed a calculated scheme born from a drug dispute. Polanco and Salgado, originally from Oakland, California, had been supplying Victim #1 with marijuana shipped from California while residing in Oregon. A disagreement in the summer of 2020 over the quality of the weed and a kilogram of cocaine escalated tensions. Instead of cutting their losses, Polanco and Salgado opted for a far more dangerous path: robbing Victim #1 on Florida soil. Polanco provided the financing, initially intending to participate himself, but ultimately delegated the on-the-ground work to Salgado, Lamar, and Robinson.
The planning was meticulous and chilling. Salgado and Lamar flew from Cleveland, Ohio to Fort Lauderdale on December 9, 2020, followed by Robinson, who traveled from Oakland to Miami the next day. They secured a rental home in West Palm Beach, transforming it into a staging ground. Surveillance cameras were obscured, door handles covered in plastic, and a rental car tinted to avoid detection. Using funds from Polanco, Salgado acquired an arsenal – an AR-15 style pistol, ammunition, a large capacity drum magazine, and a taser – all destined for use in the impending attack. Their digital footprint revealed further planning: the quartet followed, and were followed by, Victim #1 on Instagram, even commenting on a post showing Victim #1 flaunting stacks of cash.
The attack unfolded in the early morning hours of December 14th. Victim #1 and Victim #2 arrived at the rental, lured into a trap. Robinson was lying in wait, the AR-15 loaded with the drum magazine. Salgado, with Polanco’s go-ahead, gave the signal. Salgado, Lamar, and Robinson unleashed a violent assault, using firearms and the taser to subdue the victims. They were bound and forced into Victim #1’s vehicle, then transported to Belle Glade, where Salgado and Robinson stormed Victim #1’s grandmother’s home, holding Victim #1 hostage while they pilfered the $70,000 in drug proceeds. The victims were unceremoniously dumped on the side of the road after the robbery.
Salgado and Lamar attempted to flee to Georgia, but were apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Service, with Victim #2’s identification and binding tape found in their possession. The long arm of the law, combined with the diligent work of the ATF and PBSO, brought these criminals to justice. The sentences handed down by Judge Dimitrouleas send a clear message: those who resort to violence and kidnapping in the pursuit of illicit gains will face severe consequences.
