Daniel James Strycharske, Endangering Human Life While Manufacturing Controlled Substances, Washington 2013

Four men charged in the harrowing Bellevue hash oil explosion of 2013 have finally faced justice. Daniel James Strycharske, 28, and Jesse D. Kaplan, 31, pleaded guilty to a litany of charges including Endangering Human Life While Manufacturing Controlled Substances, Maintaining a Drug Involved Premises, and Manufacturing Hash Oil & Marijuana. Their actions led to a fiery disaster on November 5, 2013, at the Hampton Greens apartment complex.

The tragic incident left Former Bellevue Mayor Nan Campbell hospitalized with a broken pelvis after she tried to escape the flames, tragically succumbing to complications later. Two other residents suffered shattered bones after jumping from their upper floors.

Yesterday, two more defendants, Robbie Wayne Meiser, 46, and Bruce W. Mark, 62, joined Kaplan and Strycharske in pleading guilty to Endangering Human Life While Manufacturing Controlled Substances related to the January 1, 2014 explosion at the Inglenook Apartments in Kirkland.

The explosions and fires were nothing short of catastrophic, with debris flying 25 feet, moving building walls, and disconnecting the roof. Sentences for these charges carry potential penalties of up to ten years in prison.

These cases have been a collaborative effort between numerous local and federal agencies, including the DEA, ATF, U.S. Marshals Service, Bellevue, Seattle, and Kirkland police departments.

The men will now await sentencing, with their hearing scheduled for March 2015. Assistant United States Attorneys Todd Greenberg and Vince Lombardi are handling the prosecution of these cases.
