Former Bellevue Mayor Nan Campbell’s tragic death following a hash oil explosion has led to federal charges against eight individuals, announced U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan.
The fiery incident in Bellevue apartment complex on November 5, 2013, resulted in multiple injuries and the mayor’s fatal complications after hospitalization. The accused, including DAVID RICHARD SCHULTZ, II, 32, DANIEL JAMES STRYCHARSKE, 28, and JESSE D. KAPLAN, 31, face charges of Endangering Human Life While Manufacturing Controlled Substances, Maintaining a Drug Involved Premises, and Manufacturing Hash Oil and Marijuana.
Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist emphasized that the home-based manufacturing of THC remains illegal under state law despite the passage of Initiative 502. He highlighted the Puyallup explosion as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with oil extraction, vowing to work with federal partners for community safety.
Two men charged in connection with an explosion and fire in Puyallup on May 20, 2014, include SETH M. CLEEK, 31, and KEVIN WEEKS, JR., 24, who produced hash oil for Weeks’ company ‘Cap’n Cosmics.’ The explosion endangered multiple residents, including a 14-month-old child.
ROBBY WAYNE MEISER, 46, and BRUCE W. MARK, 62, are charged in relation to an explosion at Kirkland’s Inglenook Apartments on January 1, 2014, while HUGH RODNEY HARRIS, 65, faces charges for an explosion at Seattle’s 2802 S. McClellan Street on January 7, 2014.
DEA Special Agent in Charge Matthew G. Barnes and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF) Special Agent in Charge Douglas R. Dawson vowed to support federal, state, and local partners in eradicating this dangerous threat.
