Four Detroit Men Sentenced for Credit Card Fraud, Michigan 2017
Four Detroit men have been sentenced to federal prison for their roles in a credit card fraud ring, announced U.S. Attorney Barbara L. McQuade.
On January 25, 2017, U.S. District Judge Mark A. Goldsmith handed down the sentences to Terry Lewis, Eric Dismukes, Pastor Julius Baker, and Darrius Guyton. Terry Lewis, 41, was sentenced to 60 months in prison, while Eric Dismukes, 40, received 75 months, Pastor Julius Baker, 33, was sentenced to 42 months, and Darrius Guyton, 29, was given 39 months.
According to the evidence presented in the case, Dismukes and Lewis illicitly acquired personal identifying information from third parties and used it to obtain credit cards fraudulently. They then used these cards to conduct illicit financial transactions in the Metropolitan Detroit area, including retail store purchases and ATM cash withdrawals.
Dismukes and Lewis also provided the fraudulently-obtained credit cards to other members of the ring, including Baker and Guyton, so they could conduct their own illicit financial transactions. Pastor Baker, who had served as a pastor at the Rock Community Christian Church, used a credit card terminal registered to the church to conduct numerous financial transactions.
He admitted to moving the proceeds of these transactions to his personal accounts. In total, the members of the credit card fraud ring caused over half a million dollars in losses.
As part of their sentences, the defendants were ordered to pay restitution in the following amounts: Dismukes – $150,000, Pastor Baker – $150,000, Lewis – $40,000, and Guyton – $15,000.
The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew Yahkind.
