ROANOKE, VIRGINIA – A grim tale of predatory behavior in the digital realm unfolded as David Lee Fox, 63, from Rocky Mount, Virginia, was sentenced to a decade behind bars for his online scheme to entice teenagers into sex acts. The United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia, sitting in Roanoke, delivered the severe penalty, announced Acting United States Attorney Rick A. Mountcastle.
Fox’s predatory tactics began with a 14-year-old girl, Victim A, whom he initiated contact with via Facebook. Despite the girl’s initial reluctance, Fox persisted, leading to explicit conversations and attempts to coerce her into meeting him. His sinister behavior was thwarted when the girl’s parents alerted law enforcement, which allowed authorities to monitor their exchanges.
On October 22, an investigator from Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, and Rocky Mount Police awaited Fox at Franklin County Baptist Church. As he arrived, under the guise of meeting Victim A, he was swiftly arrested on charges of solicitation of a minor to perform sex acts.
Prior to his arrest for attempting to meet Victim A, Fox had also been communicating with another minor, Victim B. He lied about his age and engaged in similar predatory behavior, including sending inappropriate images and discussing sexual acts. His deceitful ploy was thwarted when law enforcement stepped in after being contacted by Victim B’s parents.
After his arrest, Fox faced additional charges related to his interactions with Victim B, which were ongoing at the time of his apprehension. The investigation into his despicable actions against both minors has highlighted the dangers of online predators and the vital role of vigilant parents and law enforcement in protecting our youth.
The sentence imposed on Fox serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who prey on vulnerable minors in the digital age, ensuring that justice is served for the victims and their families.
