WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – A Wetzel County man has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of a methamphetamine charge. Franklin Keith Dotson, 38, of New Martinsville, West Virginia, was sentenced to 121 months of incarceration for his crime.
According to the United States Attorney William Ihlenfeld, Dotson pleaded guilty in July 2022 to one count of “Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.” The crime was committed in July 2021 in Marshall County.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn M. Adkins prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. A number of law enforcement agencies were involved in the investigation, including the Marshall County Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, the Wetzel County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marshall County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the case, handing down the 121-month prison sentence to Dotson.
Dotson admitted to having methamphetamine in July 2021, and pleaded guilty to the charge in July 2022. The lengthy prison sentence is a reminder of the seriousness of the crime, and the consequences of being caught.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between several law enforcement agencies, and the successful prosecution of the case is a testament to their hard work and dedication.
