Jonathan Drew Bartgis, Federal Firearms Trafficking and Machinegun …

Baltimore, Maryland – Today’s grim headlines bring the story of Jonathan Drew Bartgis, a Frederick man who has pleaded guilty to federal firearms trafficking and machinegun possession charges. The 26-year-old faces substantial penalties after authorities uncovered an arsenal in his home.

According to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, Kelly O. Hayes, and the investigation led by Postal Inspector Damon E. Wood and Special Agent Charles Doerrer, Bartgis was linked to a Telegram channel advertising illegal firearms sales. A parcel addressed to him contained a Glock 23 semi-automatic handgun and 30 rounds of ammunition.

Law enforcement’s search warrant on Bartgis’s residence turned up an additional Glock 29, three machinegun conversion devices, over 400 rounds of ammunition, multiple firearm accessories, and $21,660 in cash. The investigation also revealed conversations between Bartgis and others discussing the illegal purchase of firearms and trafficking weapons.

Bartgis’s prior felony conviction bars him from owning firearms, yet he was caught with a cache that included ‘ghost guns’ without serial numbers. Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) is tackling such cases to reduce violent crime and gun violence in Maryland.

U.S. Attorney Hayes commended the collaborative efforts of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, ATF, and Frederick Police Department in bringing Bartgis to justice. The case underscores the ongoing commitment to safer communities through PSN’s comprehensive strategy.
