Transporting child pornography has landed a Lewiston man behind bars for 20 years. Fredrick W. Butler, Jr., 44, was sentenced in U.S. District Court by Judge Nancy Torresen for transporting child pornography.

According to court records, in April of last year, Butler sent an email message to an individual in Oregon attaching 19 images, most of which depicted minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. This is not his first time in hot water with the law. Butler was previously convicted in federal court for receiving child pornography in 2001 and in state court of gross sexual assault in 1995.

As a result of his prior convictions, Butler was subject to an enhanced sentence of at least 15 years in prison. This additional sentence brings his total sentence to 20 years in prison, followed by a lifetime of supervised release.

The investigation was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. Butler pleaded guilty to the offense on December 20, 2013.
