Timothy Scott Chenot, Shooting from a Moving Vehicle, California 2024

FRESNO, Calif. — The grim streets of a residential neighborhood were marred by a shocking incident on August 2, 2024, when Timothy Scott Chenot, 34, turned them into a deadly shooting gallery.

In a brazen display of gun violence, Chenot, a known felon, drove through Southeast Fresno late at night and unleashed an AR-15 .223 caliber rifle out of his truck’s window. Unoccupied cars became the targets, with several rounds fired into their unsuspecting victims before Chenot discarded his weapon on the street and made good his escape.

But luck was not on Chenot’s side that night. Responding officers quickly located and apprehended him, finding empty shells, ammunition, and open alcoholic containers within the vehicle. The weapon and spent rounds were also recovered at the scene of the crime.

Today, United States District Judge Kirk E. Sherriff handed down a severe sentence: seven years and three months in prison for being a felon in possession of ammunition. This case, prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Cody S. Chapple, is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by repeat offenders.

The Fresno Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations led the investigation that resulted in Chenot’s conviction. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program dedicated to reducing violent crime and gun violence across all levels of law enforcement. Chenot’s sentence is a testament to the relentless pursuit of justice in our communities, where every effort is made to ensure neighborhoods are safe for all. Stay tuned to Grimy Times for updates on this and other critical crime stories.
