Miguel Angel Dorantes, Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, California 2024

Fresno native Miguel Angel Dorantes, also known as Miguel Castro, has been charged by a federal grand jury with offenses involving the sexual exploitation of minors. The 28-year-old faces three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of transfer of obscene material to a minor, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Kimberly A. Sanchez.

According to court documents, Dorantes is accused of using three minors between November 6, 2021, and May 7, 2025, to create visual depictions involving sexually explicit conduct. In addition, he provided obscene material to a minor in November 2021. The case has been a joint effort by Homeland Security Investigations and the Central California Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Brittany M. Gunter is handling the prosecution of this chilling case. If convicted, Dorantes could face up to 30 years in prison for each count of sexual exploitation of a minor, along with a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years. The transfer of obscene material to a minor charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

These charges are merely allegations against Dorantes, who is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse since May 2006.
