Norwich Man Sentenced for Gun and Heroin Possession
Norwich, CT – A Norwich man is headed to the slammer after being sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for gun and heroin possession. Lewis Corwise, 29, was arrested in April 2018 after a tense standoff with police.
According to court documents, Norwich Police arrived at a local residence on April 5, 2018, to arrest Corwise, who had a warrant out for his arrest in New York. Instead of cooperating, Corwise attempted to flee, resisted arrest, and was eventually apprehended. At the time of his arrest, Corwise was found to be in possession of a loaded Springfield xD-45 handgun, nearly 60 grams of heroin, marijuana, a digital scale, five cellphones, and other incriminating items.
Corwise, a native of Norwich and New York City, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime on August 1, 2019. He has been detained since his arrest and will now spend the next 60 months in federal prison, followed by four years of supervised release.
The investigation was conducted by the Norwich Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patricia Stolfi Collins handled the case. Corwise’s guilty plea and sentencing bring an end to a lengthy and complex case.
Norwich residents are breathing a sigh of relief after the sentencing, knowing that a man who put their safety at risk is now behind bars. The city’s police department is commended for their bravery and professionalism in apprehending Corwise.
