GRIMY TIMES: In a chilling case out of Jacksonville, Florida, 63-year-old Troy Lyn Everett from Georgia has been handed a 15-year federal prison sentence for attempting to produce child sexual abuse material. The defendant, who pleaded guilty in March 2025, was also sentenced to a 10-year term of supervised release and will be registered as a sex offender.
Everett’s descent into legal purgatory began when he communicated with an undercover detective from the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office over online messaging applications. Posing as a 14-year-old child, the detective was bombarded with sexually explicit messages and requests for photos and videos of a girl Everett believed to be that age. His intent was clear: to meet this minor for sex.
The predator’s actions didn’t stop at cybercrimes; he took it upon himself to travel more than an hour from his Georgia residence to an Atlanta bus station, where he purchased a ticket to Jacksonville with the sole purpose of engaging in illegal acts. His journey was cut short when he arrived in Jacksonville and was swiftly arrested.
This case is a testament to the collaborative efforts of Homeland Security Investigations, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, and the Northeast Florida Intercept Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney John Cannizzaro prosecuted the case, which falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
