KANSAS CITY, MO – David Michael Gager, 31, also known as David Kash, is facing a long stretch behind bars after being sentenced to 71 months in federal prison today for peddling firearms on the streets of Kansas City. Gager, a convicted felon, illegally possessed and sold eight firearms, a brazen disregard for the law that earned him a hefty sentence handed down by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays.
The case unfolded between April 19, 2024, and May 16, 2024, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) building a solid case against Gager. Undercover agents and a confidential informant conducted four separate controlled purchases, each time Gager willingly parting with illegal firearms. The transactions weren’t just about the guns; Gager openly boasted about his ability to source machineguns and methamphetamine, hinting at a wider criminal network. He even admitted to transporting firearms from Kansas City to Chicago, where he flipped them for a profit – a clear interstate gunrunning operation.
The net tightened on May 9, 2024, when Kansas City, Mo. Police Department officers moved in to execute an arrest warrant. Gager, spotted approaching at a convenience store on Prospect Avenue, panicked and tossed a 9mm handgun into a nearby trashcan, hoping to ditch the evidence. It was a futile attempt. Officers recovered the weapon, sealing Gager’s fate.
Gager pleaded guilty on March 7, 2025, to five counts of knowingly being a felon in possession of firearms.
