John Doe, Possession of a Firearm, Florida 2023

⏱ 2 min read

A convicted felon in Gainesville, Florida, is facing up to 15 years in the slammer for allegedly possessing a firearm. Robert Anthony Yancy Jr., 25, was arraigned in federal court for his role in the crime.

The joint investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office uncovered the firearm in Yancy’s possession. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Hapner.

An indictment by a grand jury is not evidence of guilt, but Yancy’s alleged actions are far from innocent. If convicted, he’ll be looking at a serious sentence.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative to combat cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and violent crime.

Jury trial is set for May 27, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. before Chief District Court Judge Allen C. Winsor in Gainesville, Florida.
