Johnathan Holt, Murder in aid of racketeering, Ohio 2016

COLUMBUS, OH – Johnathan Holt, a 24-year-old Columbus man, was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole, plus an additional 25 years, for his role in a gang-related murder case.

Holt was convicted on all counts by a United States District Court jury following trial in December 2016. The case involved 20 individuals who were indicted in October 2014 in a racketeering case, with charges that include murders, attempted murders, drug trafficking, weapons offenses, extortion and robbery.

Holt’s specific charges include murder in aid of racketeering and murder through the use of a firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime. U.S. Attorney Benjamin C. Glassman said, ‘Johnathan Holt earned every minute of the life sentence that he received today.’

Five other defendants were sentenced this week for their roles in the case. Ismael Bowers, 14 years; Tommy Coates, 7 years; Joseph Hill, 18 years; Freddie Johnson, 10 years; and Chris Warton, 18 years. Robert Wilson and Troy Patterson are scheduled to be sentenced tomorrow.

The investigation was a two-year effort by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, DEA, ATF, Columbus Police, and others. U.S. Attorney Glassman commended the efforts of the agencies involved and the prosecutors who represented the United States in the case.

The racketeering case involved a gang that committed a range of crimes, including murder, attempted murder, and drug trafficking. The sentencing of these defendants brings closure to the case and serves as a reminder of the consequences of gang activity.

U.S. Attorney Glassman’s statement highlights the importance of law enforcement working together to combat gang activity and bring justice to victims and their families.
