Gardiner Man Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery
Bangor, Maine – A Gardiner man has pleaded guilty to bank robbery, with a chilling threat to his victims. John C. Slater, 66, was arrested in 2014 for stealing $15,000 from the Bank of Maine in Hallowell, Maine.
The sinister plot unfolded on June 23, 2014, when Slater handed a bank employee a demand note, warning them: “Im Here to Rob your Bank, no silent Alarms my cell Phone rings, your all dead, I have a hand grenade, and a gun, no marked bills, or inked, if so, one day I will come back and kill all of you, do you understand.???”
Law enforcement officers swiftly executed search warrants at two locations where Slater had been living, revealing evidence that connected him to the heinous crime. On July 9, 2014, he was arrested in New Hampshire.
Slater now faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and mandatory restitution. His sentencing will be determined after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Hallowell, Augusta and Gardiner Police; the Maine State Police; and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, working tirelessly to bring Slater to justice.
