Two New Jersey men have been brought to justice for their roles in a massive narcotics trafficking operation, with one defendant also facing charges for assaulting federal officers. Gemal Singleton, 27, of Edison, New Jersey, and Siddeeq Q. Williams, 39, of Cranford, New Jersey, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than one kilogram of heroin and five kilograms of cocaine.
The conspiracy, which involved arranging for cocaine and heroin to be shipped to New Jersey via tractor trailer, resulted in the recovery of 56 kilograms of heroin and 85 kilograms of cocaine on August 27, 2017. Singleton and Williams admitted to being involved in the operation and were scheduled to meet the tractor-trailer to collect the narcotics for eventual distribution.
However, the operation took a violent turn when Williams sped away from law enforcement in a Honda Pilot, ramming the vehicle into the officers’ vehicle and driving away on August 30, 2017. Williams admitted to the assault and faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Sentencing for both defendants is scheduled for February 20, 2018. The drug conspiracy charge carries a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years in prison, a maximum potential penalty of life in prison, and a $10 million fine.
Acting U.S. Attorney William Fitzpatrick credited the Drug Enforcement Administration with the investigation leading to the guilty pleas. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meredith Williams of the U.S. Attorney’s Office OCDETF/Narcotics Unit in Newark.
Singleton is represented by Robert DeGroot Esq. of Newark, while Williams is represented by Jon Kearney Esq. of Kearny, New Jersey. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking in New Jersey and the importance of holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
The investigation and subsequent guilty pleas are a significant blow to the narcotics trafficking operation and serve as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in such activities.
