Lexington, Ky. – In a stunning blow to the fentanyl trade in Scott County, Marvelous Davis, 26, of Georgetown, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Karen Caldwell to 93 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Davis’s downfall began on November 12, 2024, when law enforcement conducted a routine traffic stop that turned into a major investigation. During the stop, officers discovered an unserialized firearm, a so-called ‘ghost gun,’ hidden beneath Davis’s seat. Inside the vehicle, they found 39.7 grams of pressed pills laced with the deadly substance fentanyl.
Davis confessed during his plea agreement to having the drugs with intent to distribute and to using the firearm to support his illegal activities. Under federal sentencing guidelines, he will serve 85 percent of his sentence before being released. Post-prison, Davis will be under U.S. Probation supervision for an additional three years.
The joint effort by the FBI, Kentucky State Police, Lexington Police Department, and Georgetown Police Department led to Davis’s conviction, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a comprehensive strategy aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in the community.
Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky Paul McCaffrey, along with federal, state, and local law enforcement leaders, announced the sentence today, emphasizing the commitment to making neighborhoods safer through PSN’s core principles of fostering trust, supporting community-based organizations, and strategic enforcement.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by fentanyl and the relentless efforts of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking. The sentencing of Davis underscores the government’s resolve to dismantle criminal enterprises and protect the public from such threats.
