Georgia Man Charged in Meth Bust

ALBUQUERQUE – A federal drug trafficking charge has been filed against Timothy Wayne McGahee, 21, of Flowery Branch, Ga., in connection with the seizure of ten pounds of methamphetamine in Dona Ana County, N.M. on Oct. 23, 2016.

According to the complaint, McGahee was arrested after U.S. Border Patrol agents at the U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint west of Alamogordo, N.M. allegedly seized the methamphetamine from McGahee’s vehicle.

The U.S. Magistrate Judge sitting in Las Cruces, N.M., found probable cause to support the criminal complaint charging McGahee with a methamphetamine trafficking offense.

McGahee was released pending trial under pretrial supervision and other conditions of release.

McGahee faces a statutory minimum of ten years and a maximum of life in prison if convicted of the charge in the criminal complaint.

Charges in criminal complaints are merely accusations and criminal defendants are presumed innocent unless found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Border Patrol and the Las Cruces office of the DEA, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Clara Nevarez Cobos of the U.S. Attorney’s Las Cruces Branch Office prosecuting the case.
