A previously convicted robber, Davon Boyd, 28, was caught with a ‘ghost gun’ and ammunition in Southeast DC. On September 26, 2025, at around 10 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers were on patrol in the 1500 block of Marion Barry Avenue SE when they stopped Boyd, who was concealing a firearm in his waistband. The gun, a privately manufactured AR pistol with no serial number, was loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition.
Boyd, a resident of the District of Columbia, did not have a valid permit to carry a firearm in the city. His prior convictions include robbery and attempted robbery in Superior Court for the District of Columbia. The investigation was conducted by the Metropolitan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Washington Field Office.
On April 3, 2026, Boyd was found guilty of unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of a prohibited weapon. He was sentenced to 36 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Federal prosecutors had requested a 60-month prison term.
The case was prosecuted under the Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful initiative by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Barclay. The initiative aims to reduce crime in the city, and this sentencing is a significant step towards achieving that goal.
