Gila River Man Sentenced to More Than 15 Years for Second-Degree Murder
PHOENIX – In a shocking turn of events, Martin Oliver Pablo Sr., a 22-year-old resident of Sacaton, Ariz. and a member of the Gila River Indian Community, was sentenced to 189 months in prison on January 7, 2013.
The tragic incident occurred in April 2012 at a family gathering, where an argument led to the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man. Pablo, under the influence of alcohol, fired a single shot that struck the victim’s chest, resulting in his eventual death.
According to investigators, Pablo had been drinking before the incident, which led to his reckless decision to fire the fatal shot. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Gila River Police Department.
The prosecution was handled by Jennifer E. Green, Assistant U.S. Attorney, District of Arizona, Phoenix. Green stated that Pablo’s actions were a result of his own negligence and recklessness, leading to the unfortunate death of the young man.
Pablo pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on October 2, 2012. His sentence is a harsh reminder of the consequences of violence and the importance of responsible behavior.
