RALEIGH, N.C. – Goldsboro’s Donte Terrill Kornegay, A/K/A “Boston,” has been sentenced to 87 months in prison for his role in the distribution of fentanyl and heroin that led to a tragic overdose death.
The 45-year-old man was involved in a conspiracy that culminated in the April 6, 2016, overdose of a 21-year-old victim in Sneads Ferry, North Carolina. Court documents reveal that Kornegay directed the sale of fentanyl on that night, marking an escalation of drug activity in the area since 2015.
Robert J. Higdon, Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, emphasized the Justice Department’s commitment to combatting drug trafficking: “These drugs pose a significant danger to Eastern North Carolina, and we intend to remove that danger as part of our ‘Take Back North Carolina’ initiative.”
U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan presided over the sentencing, with assistance from the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Wilmington Resident Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ethan Ontjes and Toby Lathan represented the government in the case.
The severity of the sentence underscores the gravity of Kornegay’s actions and the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in North Carolina.
