BURLINGTON, VT – Marco Antonio Jimenez Gonzalez, 27, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, is facing federal charges after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered a sickening trove of child sexual abuse material on his electronic devices. Gonzalez was arrested July 23, 2025, attempting to re-enter the United States at the Highgate Springs Port of Entry. The discovery has sparked a federal investigation and promises a harsh reckoning for the defendant.
According to court records, officers found the illicit content on both Gonzalez’s cell phone and laptop during a routine inspection. The material constitutes child pornography, a federal crime carrying severe penalties. Gonzalez was taken into custody immediately and has been held pending arraignment. The details of the content itself remain sealed to protect potential victims, but authorities assure the public that the investigation is thorough.
On August 7, 2025, a federal grand jury returned an indictment formally charging Gonzalez with transportation and possession of child pornography. The indictment alleges that Gonzalez knowingly transported and possessed this deeply disturbing material across state lines. He is scheduled to appear before United States Magistrate Judge Kevin J. Doyle on August 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM for arraignment.
If convicted on all counts, Gonzalez faces a potential prison sentence of up to 40 years, along with a mandatory minimum of five years behind bars. However, Acting United States Attorney Michael P. Drescher emphasized that any final sentence will be determined by the District Court, taking into account U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. The government intends to pursue the maximum penalty allowed by law.
This case is being prosecuted under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice. The program aims to combat the escalating epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating federal, state, and local law enforcement resources. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua L. Banker is leading the prosecution. Gonzalez is being represented by Brooks McArthur, Esq.
“We will not tolerate those who prey on the innocent,” Drescher stated in a press release. “Our office, along with our partners at U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations, are committed to relentlessly pursuing and prosecuting individuals involved in the production, distribution, and possession of child pornography.” Those seeking more information about Project Safe Childhood can visit Justice.gov/PSC. An indictment is simply an accusation; Gonzalez is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
